1. Sunair Solar

Based on the Central Coast and servicing Sydney’s northern suburbs, Sunair Solar is run by Steel Guilana, a fully qualified sparky and SAA-accredited installer who is genuinely hands-on with every job.

Why we like them
Steel is a very knowledgeable electrician, who is patient with his customers - and addresses all of their concerns without jargon. He is also an active director, and isn’t just one that talks about getting on the tools (meaning mounting the inverter and chatting to the customer) - he also is happy to get on the roof and install every aspect of his installations.

What are their installs like?
Sunair takes some serious pride in their installations, with tetris like precision on their panel installations, not just on the light commercial stuff but also on their domestic jobs, really making sure each the same high level of service is provided to each customer, no matter how big or small. They also use high level products, with fronius being their regular and also full black panels to suit roof aesthetics.

2. Platinum Solar Group

Platinum Solar Group is a Sydney-based crew that’s built around accredited designers and electricians, with Matthew Chidiac at the helm.

Why we like them
They’re not pretending to be everything to everyone - they’ve carved out a niche in solar air conditioning, plus solar/battery installs and maintenance, which usually attracts customers who want a proper plan rather than “6.6 and see ya later.” They also openly push “tailored solutions” based on how you actually use power, which is what you want to hear from a company that’s going to design the system, not just sell the box.

What are their installs like?
Their package and product pages show they’re comfortable with premium gear - you’ll see Rolls Royce SunPower panels paired with Fronius, plus SolarEdge and Tesla batteries listed in their product range. That mix usually lines up with cleaner installs and customers who care about monitoring, aesthetics, and long-term performance (not just cheapest-per-watt).

3. Evolution Solar & Electrical

Evolution Solar & Electrical is based in Lane Cove, and is run by the very experienced Phil Keenan.

Why we like them
Evolution are a very modest operator, who do some incredible work. They do not give out the a salespeople vibe at all, in fact the complete opposite, but let their expertise and installations do the talking for them. Their site and socials are not a gigantic neon ad pushing prices, but showcasing a lot of incredibly fine work.

What are their installs like?
Evolution Solar and Electrical’s work is next level. While using all the good stuff, Tesla, Sigenergy and Sungrow - their battery installs are incredibly neat, with the use of cable duct when internal is not possible, and also using air con duct - which I’m a big fan of over multiple conduits. Plus, their panel installations are so neat, that it looks like they cut the rail offcuts millimetre perfect with a hacksaw. Apologies for the solar jargon, but trust us - they do good stuff.

partners in energy logo.png

4. Partners in Energy

Partners in Energy was founded back in January 2020 by Toby Foster. Originally in Sydney, they have since expanded back to Toby’s hometown of Orange in 2022.

Why we like them
The best thing about Partners in Energy is Toby comes up repeatedly as the guy who actually explains things like a normal person - and shows true dedication and passion for the industry. Toby’s walks the customer through panel placement and cable paths so they know exactly how it works and how it looks, and that’s the stuff that separates “sales solar” from “electrician solar.”

What are their installs like?
Based on real customer feedback, the installs are described as “next level neat and hidden,” and from our thorough research - can confirm. Nothing but internal cabling, and using products like Tesla, BYD and Sungrow.

solarpath logo.png

5. SolarPath

SolarPath is one of the older Sydney operators (still existing) - founded in 2012 and with over 10,000+ installs over the last decade+ across Australia.

Why we like them
They’re a scaled solar business, but they still emphasise ongoing support after installation (“we don’t forget you”). That matters with bigger installers. They’re only trustworthy negative review even mentions very good customer service, but was irked by an installer making hole in the ceiling - which every single sparky in the world has, and pretty small failure rate out of 10k installs.

What are their installs like?
For a big operation, they’re installs are surprisingly very neat and installed with a lot finesse - showing they have strict installation standards. They offer a broad product range and aren’t locked into one inverter, including major inverter brands like SolarEdge, SMA, Enphase, Fronius, Sungrow, GoodWe, SolaX and more.

psc energy logo.png

6. PSC Energy

PSC Energy (formerly Penrith Solar Centre) is built by Penrith born and bred Jake Warner, not a faceless national franchise pretending to be your neighbour.

Why we like them
Jake has been in the electrical game since he was 16, and is determined to help better the community with clean energy, and also jobs - seeing how PSC employs over 100 local Western Sydney residents. They’re openly an electrician-led business and are very patriotic in the area, so looking after the locals takes priority - which is evident in their installs.

What are their installs like?
PSC’s own posts show a very particular aesthetic: AIKO all-black panels and black racking which is very elegant on roofs, paired with Sigenergy SigenStor. They’re also transparent about battery options they carry (Sigenergy SigenStor, Tesla Powerwall 3, Enphase IQ 5P). Customer reviews repeatedly mention tidy crews and clean -which tracks with the branding.

hills solar logo.png

7. Hills Solar

Hills Solar is a family owned business, founded in 2015 by Amin Timus, but with over 17 years working alongside some of the larger retailers in the past.

Why we like them
Hills Solar have been around for over 10 years, and one of the first things they do is warranty numbers on the table (workmanship and product warranties). That’s usually a sign the company expects to be around long enough to honour them, especially if they have been for 10 years.

What are their installs like?
It’s evident that Hills Solar focuses heavily on regulations, and do not compromise this to “squeeze as many panels on as possible”. The clamping zones on their panels are symmetrically perfect, showing that each install they have clearly gone out of their way to make sure load is evenly distributed, and not just in the green zone.

ag solar logo.png

8. AG Solar

AG Solar is based in Illawarra and was founded in 2017 by Trent and Daniel, both SAA accredited electricians.

Why we like them
Trent and Daniel were installing solar a decade ago, and they built AG Solar specifically to be customer-focused, honest, and in-house (not outsourced chaos). They’ve made “trust & service” their entire identity - and more importantly, they back it with structure, in-house teams & support. Their clean intention to be the company that answers the phone after the install.

What are their installs like?
AG positions themselves as “premium residential and commercial,” which is backed up by using premium products including Tesla and Signergy. That in-house shows up in their finish - tighter cable runs, racking trimmed off on all panel installs, and less of the “random subcontractor roulette” you get with sales-first operators.

solarbank logo.png

9. Solarbank

Solarbank was founded in 2014 and by Andrew Moderer. In 2024, George and Jordan bought into the business, but kept Andrew’s vision and approach to solar, and continue the reputation he built.

Why we like them
This is one of those companies that’s proud of being “big enough to be capable, small enough to care.” With a young and dynamic crew, they explicitly sell the idea of personalised advice, and focus primarily on install quality (down to the annoying details like conduit and finish that we love here) - which means they’ve got standards and they’re not shy about them.

What are their installs like?
Solarbank use purely premium products, including Fronius, Sungrow, BYD and Tesla. Their battery installs are incredibly neat, hiding cabling behind down pipes like absolute solar wizards. Their panels are also expertly installed - which is evident by consistent clamping zones, pathways and distancing from potential shade.

energy culture logo.png

10. Energy Culture

Energy Culture are a small and tight knit solar company based in the Northern Beaches, and run by Joe Edginton.

Why we like them
Energy Culture is a family owned business that has been around in the Northern Beaches for two decades - and know how the locals like it. They design their systems for sustainability and long-term design - customised for how each individual customer and their needs. They are a young energetic crew, who really seem to enjoy their careers.

What are their installs like?
The Energy Culture team specialise in high-quality trusted brands, including Tesla, Enphase, and Sungrow. As mentioned, they love what they do, which is shown in the care and precision in the installation and placement of their products - including the many Teslas they install.

About the Best Solar Companies in Sydney

As you probably have figured out, there are quite a few similarities between the best solar companies above. Some of this includes that they:

  • Employ in-house electricians

  • Provide after sales care

  • Employ in-house sales staff

  • Do not use bad, or even average, products

  • Take pride in their work

These 5 points are incredibly important when it comes to choosing a solar installer. If the company has all the electricians and sales staff under the one roof, it is in everyone's interest to keep the customer happy, and less chance of a "lack of communication" error.

They also use quality products and make sure they are not only installed properly, but aesthetically pleasing as they want the system to last for as long as possible, and for it to look nice, - as they are in it for the long run, not just a quick buck.

The better products they use, the better skilled staff that take more time on each project, and allowing for any warranty issues - generally means the better solar companies do cost more than the ones to avoid. However, they will last a lot longer and it's better to pay slightly more now, or you'll be paying a lot more later.

Solar Companies to Avoid

While some people can have a good experience with these companies, there are 1000s of cases of displeased customers since the solar boom which relates to issues including, system never working, dodgy installations causing fires, pushy sales people, ugly and non compliant installations, property damage, and changing products at the last minute.

Unfortunately, this happens because some solar companies offer very low installation costs, which is attractive to consumers. They can achieve this by compromising cost by using low quality panels and inverters, have razor thin margins, and pay their installers minimal. They are usually just a sales company that hires sub-contracting electricians to do their work. While some of these sparkies will do a good job - they are getting paid very minimal, so most will only do the bare minimal. It is the sales company who the customer has a deal with, so the electrician will not be worried about a negative image if they do an average job.

Below are the some of the solar companies that you should definitely avoid.

Arise Solar

Arise Solar are a solar company that install a lot of solar systems, but have just as many complaints. People have reported that they use pushy salespeople from overseas call centres to cold-call, and they do not have any in-house electricians, but sub all of their work out.

They are normally one of the cheapest, as they cut costs by using cheap labour and inferior products. Many people have reported them quoting good products, but swapping them at the last minute - claiming they are even better, but for the same price. These products either don't work from the start, or don't last very long. We recommend avoiding Arise Solar.

Sunboost

Sunboost is another company that has given many good installers work - as many good installers have had to come out and fix up some of Sunboost's dodgy installs. Sunboost sells systems and relies only on sub-contractors (and cheap ones) to install the job.

From many accounts, there is often no or little communication for install dates, and when (not if) there is an issue with the installation, they don't want to know about it as it is the "installers responsibility" - who by then, are dust in the wind.

Even though some subcontracting installers are good, many (especially the ones that work for very little) use cheap and unqualified labour, often with one electrician monitoring two jobs at different sites a day, and signing off on both. Obviously, this dodgy workmanship comes back to bite the customer with the system not working properly (or at all).

Allan Border doesn't know anything about solar, so who cares if he recommends them. We do know a lot about solar, and we recommend avoiding Sunboost.

Conclusion

So there you have it, the best solar installers in Sydney, and some to avoid. Bare in mind, this is done from our years of experience and knowledge in the solar industry.

The best solar installers at the top of this list, are most likely going to be more expensive than the ones at the bottom that we recommend avoiding. It is completely up to you for who you want to choose to install solar for you, but you are now armed with the information to tell the good from the bad. And as they say, if you pay peanuts, you will get monkeys.
