The Koala Solar team is a tight knit bunch that handle everything internally, and the bosses are on the tools. So you will definitely be dealing with someone who is invested in the business at every point of the installation process, so you know they'll do a fantastic job - and their immaculate star rating proves this.

Koala Solar use only the best materials, including Fronius and Tesla, to ensure the longevity of their customers systems. Their panelling is also very straight and elegant, and all their inverter and battery work has internal cabling, and very straight conduit work tucked neatly next to the inverter when it is unavoidable.

2. Unisol Solar and Electrical

Unisol Solar and Electrical has an experienced sparky at the helm named Colin, who has been in the solar game for over 20 years.

Why we like them

Colin has a huge amount of knowledge in the solar industry, and works directly with this customers and solves previous installers issues - without the use of jargon. His customers love him, which makes sense because it is rare that you get the most knowledgeable installer available on your beck and call.

What are their installs like?

The team at Unisol install elegant systems, where you can see they have taken their time to square up systems in the dead centre of the roof, cutting away any rail dag's. Unisol also use Sungrow products, which are the worlds most bankable solar products.

fritts solar logo.png

3. Fritts Solar

Fritts Solar is a family owned and operated solar company based in Perth, which is run by CEO Abhinu Raghavan, and has been around for over 10 years. They service all of Perth from Joondalup to Mandurah.

Why we like them

Abhinu is an electrical engineer with very heavy and also boasts a masters degree. It is great to see someone with a true passion for their career making the most in the renewable energy field, and would definitely mean there will be no cutting corners with dodgy workmanship or second rate materials.

What are their installs like?

As expected, Fritts Solar uses Tier One products such as SolarEdge and Fronius inverters. They do a very neat job with their domestic inverter installs, with straight conduit tucked away neatly when required, but they also go internal with most of their conduit work, and have their corrugated conduit penetrations align perfectly with the entry positions on the inverter.

4. Perth Solar Force

Perth Solar Force is run by three mates, Aaron, Jason and Bronson who were all schoolmates, to running an electrical business together, to focusing solely on solar since 2016. They are one of the biggest and trusted solar companies in Perth.

Why we like them

The team at Perth Solar Force are a tight knit group and are a friendly social bunch. This energy makes them a pleasure to deal with from the first point of sale, to the installation and after sale service - which is entirely the Perth Solar Force team, as they do not have outside sales consultants or subby out any work. You will be dealing with them for every step of the journey as they do everything in house.

What are their installs like?

Perth Solar Force takes an extraordinary amount of pride in their panel installs. This normally can get neglected by solar installers, especially at larger companies with apprentices usually on the roof. PSF keeps their panel installations textbook, with no bowing and perfectly aligned, even on large commercial installs with a sea of panels. They also created some panel art on their workshop roof, with the solar panels spelling P S F. Very cool stuff.

regen power logo.png

5. Regen Power

Regen Power has been a major player in solar in Australia for over a decade, but was established in Perth back in 2003 by founding managing director, Professor Chem Nayar. The company has now completed over 40,000 installs.

Why we like them

Regen Power has a wealth of awards they have won over recent years, including the number one installer for most solar installs in Western Australia. Regen Power, and Professor Nayar have pioneered an innovative integrated power system named HybridGen.

What are their installs like?

Regen Power uses decent enough products such as Tesla and Fronius, and keep their inverter and battery systems tight and well aligned, with hidden services. However, as they have many installers working for them, some of the panel systems seem to get slightly neglected, with the edge of rails not being chopped off the edge of layed panels, and not perfectly squared out panel designs.

solaire connect logo.png

6. Solaire Connect

Solaire Connect is a family owned and operated solar company run by Kevan Towers, David Swales and Kev Towers. They have been operating in the Northern Suburbs of Perth and continue keeping customers happy for over 13 years.

Why we like them

Solaire Connect attribute their longevity in the solar industry due to taking a firm stance on reliable products and service throughout the years. They have continued to do this while competing with other players who took short cuts with cheaper inferior products, that eventually breakdown in the harsh Perth sun. While many of these companies have crashed and burned due to warranty issues, Solaire Connect has left 1000s of customers satisfied, by using durable efficient products, installed correctly.

What are their installs like?

The team at Solaire Connect take a lot of pride in their rooftop installs, as they do in the bottom, doing all cabling internal. They use top fully optimising products like SolarEdge and Enphase. Their panels are straight without bowing, and line up perfectly. Plus, they ensure to cut off the side rail evenly on every job, including jobs where the roof is maximised for panels, and having to avoid roof obstacles - which includes panels sitting by themselves in random spots, and is never pleasant on the eyes but it's great to see the installers still taking pride in the little things.

solar right wa.png

7. Solar Right WA

Solar Right WA is a Perth based solar installation company which is headed by it's two directors, Nathan and Grieg.

Why we like them

The team at Solar Right WA treat their clients uniquely and with the utmost respect, and still get on the tools themselves. They give a true tailor-made system, from the first point of call, to designing the system, installing it and of course, giving old fashioned after sales care.

What are their installs like?

Solar Right WA use a good mix of products, from the elite inverters such as Fronius and SMA, but also offering more wallet friendly options such as GoodWe. Their inverter set ups are very neat, with the AC Isolator tucked in neatly to the side, internal cabling back to the switchboard and panels, and neatly cut DC cabling which shows that each cable was cut precisely to look good.

solar harness logo.png

8. Solar Harness

Solar Harness has been operating since 2007, and in that time they have managed to install over 33k installations across Perth.

Why we like them

33k systems is a massive achievement, and would equate to their customers saving over $50 million in electricity every year. In this time, there have very few complaints of them online, proving they definitely keep well over 99% of their customers happy. Other big players with this amount of installs, have a vastly different custom satisfaction - and not for the positive.

What are their installs like?

Solar Harness don't exactly need to show off their best installs online, but their panel systems aren't anything to write home about, but to be fair they are moderately straight and even, but some aren't perfectly aligned by an OCD installer.

westsun energy.png

9. Westsun Energy

Westsun Energy was founded by two young sparkies over ten years ago, Mark and Ben, who had a passion for the environment and outdoors, making solar the perfect option for their long-term career.

Why we like them

Westsun Energy is a great example of a company that was built by people who were passionate about their workplace and career. From humble beginnings, the team has prioritised training and development, and now install some incredibly designed commercial installations, all with in-house electricians installing all of their work, no subbies.

What are their installs like?

Westsun do some great commercial work, with many rows of panels installed symmetrically over different roof faces. Their domestic stuff is decent also, with the use of cable tray to hide conduit whenever they don't go internal with the cabling - although some of their conduit work, while very neat, was a bit unnecessary. They use premium materials such as Fronius and SolarEdge, but have affordable options like Huawei also.

MLEC Solar logo_edited.jpg

10. MLEC Solar

MLEC Solar was born in 2014, and founded by two brothers , Ben and Matt Morrison who have been sparkies in Canning Vale  since they were pups

Why we like them

Like other installers that we like, MLEC Solar are upfront that they focus more on the quality of the workmanship and materials, that stands the test of time. In other words, they will not install something that will break down in years to come, focusing on the longevity of your system, and their company.

What are their installs like?

MLEC Solar do some very neat work with their installs, and we noticed that they have used air con duct to hide some conduit work. A very unnecessary thing that I've never seen another solar installer do, as it is much more expensive, but looks tip top. They also use decent products including Fronius and SMA, but they do provide budget inverters such as Growatt, like many other installers.

About the Best Solar Companies in Perth

As you probably have figured out, there are quite a few similarities between the best solar companies above. Some of this includes that they:

  • Employ in-house electricians

  • Provide after sales care

  • Employ in-house sales staff

  • Do not use bad, or even average, products

  • Take pride in their work

These 5 points are incredibly important when it comes to choosing a solar installer. If the company has all the electricians and sales staff under the one roof, it is in everyone's interest to keep the customer happy, and less chance of a "lack of communication" error.

They also use quality products and make sure they are not only installed properly, but aesthetically pleasing as they want the system to last for as long as possible, and for it to look nice, - as they are in it for the long run, not just a quick buck.

The better products they use, the better skilled staff that take more time on each project, and allowing for any warranty issues - generally means the better solar companies do cost more than the ones to avoid. However, they will last a lot longer and it's better to pay slightly more now, or you'll be paying a lot more later.

Solar Companies to Avoid

While some people can have a good experience with these companies, there are 1000s of cases of displeased customers since the solar boom which relates to issues including, system never working, dodgy installations causing fires, pushy sales people, ugly and non compliant installations, property damage, and changing products at the last minute.

Unfortunately, this happens because some solar companies offer very low installation costs, which is attractive to consumers. They can achieve this by compromising cost by using low quality panels and inverters, have razor thin margins, and pay their installers minimal. They are usually just a sales company that hires sub-contracting electricians to do their work. While some of these sparkies will do a good job - they are getting paid very minimal, so most will only do the bare minimal. It is the sales company who the customer has a deal with, so the electrician will not be worried about a negative image if they do an average job.

Below are the some of the solar companies that you should definitely avoid.

Arise Solar

Arise Solar are a solar company that install a lot of solar systems, but have just as many complaints. People have reported that they use pushy salespeople from overseas call centres to cold-call, and they do not have any in-house electricians, but sub all of their work out.

They are normally one of the cheapest, as they cut costs by using cheap labour and inferior products. Many people have reported them quoting good products, but swapping them at the last minute - claiming they are even better, but for the same price. These products either don't work from the start, or don't last very long. We recommend avoiding Arise Solar.

Sunboost

Sunboost is another company that has given many good installers work - as many good installers have had to come out and fix up some of Sunboost's dodgy installs. Sunboost sells systems and relies only on sub-contractors (and cheap ones) to install the job.

From many accounts, there is often no or little communication for install dates, and when (not if) there is an issue with the installation, they don't want to know about it as it is the "installers responsibility" - who by then, are dust in the wind.

Even though some subcontracting installers are good, many (especially the ones that work for very little) use cheap and unqualified labour, often with one electrician monitoring two jobs at different sites a day, and signing off on both. Obviously, this dodgy workmanship comes back to bite the customer with the system not working properly (or at all).

Allan Border doesn't know anything about solar, so who cares if he recommends them. We do know a lot about solar, and we recommend avoiding Sunboost.

Conclusion

So there you have it, the best solar installers in Perth, and some to avoid. Bare in mind, this is done from our years of experience and knowledge in the solar industry.

The best solar installers at the top of this list, are most likely going to be more expensive than the ones at the bottom that we recommend avoiding. It is completely up to you for who you want to choose to install solar for you, but you are now armed with the information to tell the good from the bad. And as they say, if you pay peanuts, you will get monkeys.
