RACV Solar Review

Formerly Gippsland Solar when founded by Andy and Kelly McCarthy in their home, RACV Solar is now one of the biggest solar companies in the country.

Why we like them

RACV Solar have a team of inhouse electricians and apprentices to do their many installs, and many of their 100kw+ installs are very aesthetically pleasing. If you see any large commercial solar systems installed throughout Gippsland, such as the Latrobe Regional Hospital, it is likely it was done by them.

To be aware of

Since they have been bought by RACV, a lot of their work is subbed out. This includes commercial and residential installs. This means quality is very worker dependent, and any warranty issues (which should definitely get sorted as long as RACV doesn't fold) - could possibly be a delay due to internal disputes/sub-contractor availability.

RACV appear to have Google Reviews disabled, which is a bit of a concern. Most companies like to showcase them, not hide them.

What are their installs like?

While we can't say much for their domestic stuff, RACV Solar installs elite systems on schools, hotels, breweries - basically any commercial building. The outcome, are very impressive and large systems that are square on multiple roof spaces and looks very symmetrical.

Advanced Energy Solutions Review

Our number one pick for Melbourne solar companies, Advanced Energy Solutions, is run by two veteran electricians (Jim and Dan) and have offices in Melbourne and Ballarat.

Why we like them

Jim and Dan are knowledgeable sparkies, and they are both fully involved in their commercial installs, from point of sale to on-site - so there is no risk of communication breakdown, nor under qualified sales people. AES do many commercial buildings including gyms, schools and factories - with the wider team also completing the electrical works.

To be aware of

AES is a small solar company, and although they have an independent solar team with CEC installers and designers - they sometimes draw on electricians from their affiliated company, DMS Electrical, for larger projects. This means that while their core solar team ensures system design and oversight, not every electrician on-site may be a full-time solar specialist.

What are their installs like?

AES do an incredible job with their commercial installs, with pinpoint accuracy on their layouts on 100kW systems, and using top tier products like Fronius - and very neat tray and ducting. Their OCD type attention to detail on the minor things, makes the whole install seem professional and meticulous.

Kuga Electrical Review

Kuga has only been around since 2016, but is now one of the biggest solar companies in Australia and has offices in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia.

Why we like them

Kuga have installed over 5000 systems across Australia, with many of them being massive commercial jobs well over 100kW. In fact, they were one of the top 5 commercial installers for 2022 for the Sunwiz Awards. Kuga has a focus on achieving the best ROI for their clients, by offering competitive quotes and using Sungrow inverters (worlds most bankable inverter).

To be aware of

While their online portfolio is impressive and with mostly pleased clientele - Kuga doesn't have the best Google rating, from only a handful of reviews. While angry customers are generally the loudest, there is a trend to be aware of with some past clients displeased on the lack of communication from Kuga for non-working systems during the warranty period.

What are their installs like?

Kuga do very decent set ups on large industrial factories, including manufacturing and food processing. These installations are very symmetrical and tend to take a multitude of roofs on each factory, to really maximise the solar output and provide a better ROI for their clients.

Commercial Solar Installers

Commercial solar is a different game to residential solar. Instead of companies bleeding to sell their system as the cheapest quote - commercial solar installers sell their systems based on their reputation.

As businesses generally operate during the day and close up at night, solar is the perfect investment for a business to lower their operating costs, and often are paid off in as quickly as 2-3 years.

However, commercial solar systems are significantly expensive and as they more often save business tens of thousands of dollars a year - you want to make sure you are getting an installer that knows what they are doing, with products that you can trust.

So when looking for a commercial solar system for your business, do not go with a company who offers cheap products that no other company is offering, and use an installer that you will trust.
